Free Friday: Let’s Talk What YOUR Health

I get it, you watched What the Health and now you are a vegan. You have all the answers and want everyone to be a vegan with you. (Been there done that!)

There are many holes in this logic though. For one, watching one documentary is not going to give you all the the tools needed to transition your life, especially after years of eating a way opposite of what you are trying to do now. Will it spark something in you? YES! And honestly, I hope it does. But hopefully, it will spark a desire to do your OWN research, to pay attention to what YOU are eating and to exercise discipline. It doesn’t matter how many documentaries you watch, if you lack discipline and a motivating WHY, when you are out with friends and / or family and the temptation to indulge in ‘just a little piece’ will have you back at the drawing board every time. I appreciate documentaries like What the Health, Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy, etc.. they are very informative; however, the follow-up is on the viewer and that is where many of us miss it.

It is imperative first and foremost that you pay attention to your body and how it responds to the foods you eat. And yes, even vegan food. I think there is a misconception that in order to be vegan you have to replace all your meat items with faux meat items and they are just and bad, causing some of the same effects as meat because they are laden with chemicals. So when deciding to eliminate meat or ‘go vegan’ what do you want that to look like for YOU.

Next, if you are going to eat packaged vegan food READ LABELS. Read labels for the reason I mentioned above – CHEMICALS.

Lastly, and most importantly, EAT LIVING FOODS! You are a living being so stop eating DEAD food.

I do not want anyone to feel as though being a vegan turns you into a grass eating hermit who can never enjoy the delicacies of tasty food ever again – that is far from the truth but be mindful and listen to you body. Your body will tell you what it needs and I can guarantee that a soda probably ain’t it. When you eat a piece of fruit and your whole body wakes up, your cells begin firing and that is what you need. When you have fresh green juice and fog is removed from you mind – your body is saying YES! YES! YES! When you choose the Veggie Wrap instead of the burger and fries your colon literally claps and pushes waste through the curves of your bowels, while saying thank you for your support – LOL

There are some very informative documentaries out there about veganism, but those documentaries are just the door and it is your effort through research, discipline and mindful eating that the door opens and you are able to walk in with ease. Watch documentaries (like the ones noted), talk to people who are non-meat eaters and get tips, read and trust that you will have the information you need when you need it.

  1. I know I commented on Instagram but I also wanted to say that you are sooo right when you say these documentaries are a start because you definitely have to go beyond the information shared AND that moment of inspiration 😉

    1. thank you for reading and commenting. documentaries are definitely a good start and can be very informative. but any change in life requires discipline and education and that is what i hope the take-away is.
