HELP! HAYWIRE HORMONES!!

Recently, I completed a class on Facebook about hormones and essential oils and wanted to share the information with my awesome readers 🙂 You know how much I love information but even more sharing it, so that WE ALL can benefit from the application of the knowledge. Below you will find the graphics and info for your reading pleasure.

  1. What are hormones?

Hormones are important chemical messengers in the body that are part of, and released by the endocrine system. These messengers control crucial tasks of our major bodily functions, from emotions and mood, to whether we feel hungry / full and then complex processes like reproduction and sex drive. When we understand our hormones, and how they can support us, we can take better control of our health! Source: Good Health Room

  1. Endocrine system

The endocrine system includes the areas in the body that regulate and produce hormones. Without our endocrine system, various parts of the body would work independently from one another. Some of the organs that produce hormones includes the pineal gland (which sets the circadian rhythm), the thyroid (which sets cellular metabolism), the pancreas (which is involved in digestion and blood sugar control), the ovaries and testes (which produce the sex hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone), and the adrenal glands (which produce cortisol that balances emotional and physiological stress to maintain homeostasis). The hormone levels fluctuate during the day and are released in a pulsing-type manner throughout the hour, day or month. This release is set by the circadian rhythm. Melatonin can be considered the re-set button for the circadian rhythm and it allows the body to recover and repair from work done during the day. Source: Naturopathic Wellness

3. The female endocrine system (hormonal system) is very sensitive to stress – that stress could be dietary (eating the wrong foods for your body, or too many processed foods), emotional strain, too much work and not enough sleep, environmental toxins, or pain and inflammation.

Under chronic stress, your cortisol levels rise, causing drops in estrogen and progesterone, your two main sex hormones. This can contribute to menstrual irregularities, weight gain, estrogen dominance, and infertility.

  1. Symptoms that can indicate your hormones are haywire include the following:

irritability, anxiousness, PMS, menopausal symptoms that interfere with day to day life, heavy periods, irregular cycles, inability to lose weight, breast tenderness, hair loss, fatigue, insomnia, hypothyroidism, lack of sex drive, increase in belly fat, etc…

  1. Essential oils for hormornes?!

Essential oils are the concentrated liquids and essences from plants, containing volatile aroma compounds. They can be inhaled, diffused, applied to the skin, or taken internally (use CAUTION taking oils internally! Young Living has a line of dietary oils suitable for ingestion.) to rebalance your system. Because they are so concentrated, only a drop or 2 is needed for effect. The oils do not contain hormones but have properties that can stimulate hormone production and balance.
